Nestled 130km West of Alice Springs, within the heart of Central Australia, lies a rugged terrain steeped in history and natural wonder—the Finke 4WD Track. Traversing a spectacular section of the mighty Finke River, this challenging route between Hermannsburg Mission and Running Waters promises adventure seekers an unforgettable journey through time and landscape.

The Finke River, known as Larapinta to Arrernte people, holds profound significance, its ancient waters weaving tales of trade and travel for millennia. Later, the Finke River became instrumental in the establishment of the Lutheran Missions and Pastoralism which re-shaped Central Australia. 

Today, this stretch of the Finke River finds sanctuary within the Finke Gorge National Park, its tranquil waters bordered by majestic River Red Gums. Amidst this serene setting, the Finke 4WD Track beckons adventurous locals who relish the challenge it presents. Every year its difficult crossings claim vehicles, earning its colloquial name, "Boggy Hole”. Safety: Along with Andrews extensive experience, Nuance Tours carry the full complement of recovery equipment, including first aid kit, satellite phone and personal locator beacon. All passengers receive a safety induction on joining the tour, and throughout the trip Andrew will impart his knowledge and experience of four wheel driving. Nuance Tours is also covered by $20,000,000 in public liability insurance for remote tours.

  • As Nuance Tours offers private bespoke tours, the itinerary will be built around you as much as possible.

    The drive to the start of the Finke 4WD track from Alice Springs is apprixmately 1.5hrs, and from there it can take 2-4 hours to reach Boggy Hole depending on conditions and how much we stop.

    Typically tours to Boggy Hole commence at 9-10am on Day 1, Camp at or close to Boggy Hole on Night 1, and finish mid-late afternoon on Day 2.

    • All meals and refreshments: Andrew will work with you to ensure the food and beverages provided on the tour meets any dietary requirements.

    • All camping equipment including swag and bedding (if required)

    • Clothes; Andrew will advise on clothing depending on the time of year, but clothes you don't mind getting dirty are preferred.
